A Beginner’s Guide to Venture Capital
While there is a lot of information available about investment terms for equity investments, in order to understand what it means for your Company to accept an investment from venture capitalists, it is important to understand the venture capital business: Where does VC money come from? How are VC funds organized? How do VC’s make money for their investors and themselves? This presentation will help the entrepreneur understand whether their business plan fits the needs of the VC fund, whether they and their business are ready for venture capital, and how they should think about selecting investors from whom to take an equity investment.

Gloria M. Skigen is a partner at Holland & Knight, and primarily advises investors in venture capital and private equity transactions. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Skigen spent nearly a decade as general counsel to a healthcare venture capital firm, where she oversaw all legal affairs, including portfolio investments, exits, fund administration and participated in hundreds of pitches from prospective portfolio companies.
